    Computer Hardware Prices The Same

It's always fun when you go to build a new computer. Typically I build one and then have no interaction with the world of computer building for another year or two. Then when I go to build again, I have to relearn what is out there as the world of computer components jump light years in only a year (you know, the whole Moore's Law effect)...

This is one of the first year's I have been shocked to find that when looking at the base of the computer I built a year and a half ago has those components listed at the same price now. I decided to take my old computer as a base starting point to see where the prices have gone... In years past, the price had dropped significantly... this time around, the price is the same.

CPU: Intel Core(i7) 2600k @ 3.4MHz (sandy bridge).... It is either the same or more expensive at $339.00
Motherboard (where I thought I could save a lot of money): ASUS P8Z77-V PRO (was and is now) $189.00
RAM: The only place where I would save some money, but even then not by a lot (was $200 for 4 16GB DDR3) now $200 for 2 8GB DDR3 RAM.
GeFORCE GTX 560 2048MB DDR5 (2GB): Then $200 now $150 (although mostly out of stock)
Case and Power Supply $100 then $100 now

Is Moore's Law beginning to subside or am I missing something? Typically after a year and a half they would have new Processors... Pentium 3s were replaced quickly with Pentium 4s. i7s have now been around for quite a while and seemingly haven't improved much.

$339 for a 2600k? I wonder why it's so expensive... The computer I built back in February has a 3770k that I paid only $220 for.

That's what I mean... Either I'm missing something or prices have climbed significantly... I used to buy from newegg or tiger direct, should I be looking elsewhere? I did buy from the local Frys last time and was surprised to find competitive prices... I haven't been there yet, but plan to stop by there tomorrow.

Thanks, I was just starting to check out Amazon... Not sure why I wasn't before... 90% of my purchases (everything from movies, appliances, mixers, etc, have all been made from Amazon lately). So why I wasn't thinking them for computer components is beyond me. I guess just the old habits of Newegg being the old cheapest place to order.

That being said, ordering the parts tomorrow...
