Did a mobile stream from the back of a truck for a sobriety walk from a local park to the State Capitol building. Everything went well, I over compensated on the prepaid data ... paid for 10G used less than 1G of 4G LTE. It was nice making money doing something I enjoy.... Had pics of setup but upload is failing ill try to post soon.
ASUS G73 i7 Quad laptop with factory ATI 5870 graphics
Canon XL1 with cheap EZ grabber USB capture card
Audio was from shot gun mic on cam
Using vMix broadcasting software
500W Power Inverter
Verizon 4G LTE Jetpack prepaid from Best Buy
... That was the plan anyways. Turns out the inverter would not power my G73 laptop. So I had to go with the old HP workstation dual core running XP.. since it was XP I was unable to stream with vMix so I had to use FME. The client had its own Amazon CDN setup so all I did was stream back to a given URL and shoot what I could get from the back of the truck they were driving me around in. I have to give props to vMix, I was really looking forward to using the software, I am in the 60 trial and love the SW. I have Vidblaster and Wirecast and there are a couple things I would change but still prefer vMix over anything else I have been using. Being mobile with the LTE service was awesome too... I work for Sprint but was within better Verizon coverage and was getting 18-20 MB down and about 6-9 up. it was plenty for the 400 bit rate I was limited to by the clients IT department.
It went good after I got everything going. I ended up taking the card back to Best Buy after the event and got my $100 back.. they will refund the device within 14 days, but not the prepaid cards. I also made some good seed money to invest in some pro gear and start marketing streaming services. Wish me luck!
