We are always looking to improve our video quality at the GFQ Network... Last week I was talking to a few people about the proper bit rate setting for HD content. What do you guys think the right bit rate setting should be for 720p video? I have seen people do anywhere from 1mbps to 5mbps.
I did some research a ways back to determine what bit rate I needed to have my final video produced in for 720p YouTube streaming. I found that YouTube "typically" streams around 5Mbps for 720p video (this may vary based on amount of action, etc.). I'm not suggesting that you stream at 5Mbps for the types of talking head shows that most of us do, but if you were doing a sports show where there is a lot of movement, I'd say closer to 5Mbps the better.
I probably wouldn't go any higher than 2.5Mbps for streaming a 720p talking head show.

I'm trying to setup a show that will utilize multiple cameras as well as cameras cut from another city. Is it possible to get a live HD quality video like you for your show? Where can I learn to get the kind of video and sound quality you have

for 720 it's 1500 minimum, 2500 recommended, 4000 max.
Do realize contend is a determining factor. Fast action sport requires higher and talking heads lower. Basically encoders work best on pixel to pixel changes in and between frames. Fast action (and dissolves too) have lots of change from frame to frame so they need more bits.
H.264 codec x264 tends to handle lower bit rates better than MainConcept's H.264 so that's a factor as well.
Yes its possible. We have many shows on GFQ that are from remote studios in different states. Spencer does his show from his LA studio and sends 720p video VIA skype.Quote:

All of our shows are live. The quality of Skype will depend on the hardware and internet connection you have. If you want to do HD Skype calls you should at least have 5mbps upload for Skype. As far as a video/audio solution Skype has the best quality. Google hangouts is close but the audio is not great.
