So this week was the first time I have recorded 720p video for my podcast to put into an RSS feed. I quickly ran into issues when I rendered the video and the file was about 2GB so i tried again and again and I cant keep the file size down. Im using Sony Vegas and would like the final video to be between 500-700 MB if you have any experience with this I would greatly appreciate your help.

What is the typical length of the videos you produce?
What codec, settings, and bitrate are you using to render at?
What are you using to deliver the file to your RSS feed?
We have encounter this issue a few times. When the GFQ Network went over to HD we didnt put into account the file size for the Raw copy would be 10gigs. Sunkast (our editor) through trial and error he came up with a good combo that is working for is.
What file format are you recording in? What is the bit rate? Also what is the end result of the files? Bitrate and format?

I record in Wirecast Flash HD 16:9 720p bitrate 1000 kbits MP4
In Sony Vegas this is the 720p render settings with that set up the file was almost 2GBS

Judging by the settings in the image you attached, it looks like you are encoding at 8Mbps. Which is larger than what you need for web delivery. For GFQ, I use a bitrate of 1.5Mbps encoded through Debugmode Frame Server, and MeGUI. This usually produced a 500-700MB file for one hour shows.
If you are only recording at 1Mbps, I would recommend upping it to 2Mbps. Then when you encode in Vegas, set a Constant bitrate of 1,500. It's always best to record at a higher bitrate, then you can change it when you edit without seeing as much quality loss.

Vegas will open a flash format video?
Unfortunately no. You would need to convert the video into a different format such as avi, wmv, mov, or mp4, to open it in Vegas.Quote:
