Alesis MultiMix 16 USB FX 16-Channel Mixer with Effects and USB Interface

Anyone recommend the Alesis MultiMix 16 USB FX 16-Channel Mixer with Effects and USB Interface?

Unfortunately, this model has been replaced with the MultiMix 16 USB FX which contains some nice new features like inserts on the channels but it only allows stereo recording through the USB audio interface instead of all 16 tracks.

I don't recall exactly how much my MultiMix 16 USB 2.0 cost, but if I recall it was under $500. It's one of those purchases that I feared might be too good to be true, but after 4 years, I'd say this board gets my stamp of approval!

Will this mixer do a mix minus? As I recall, it would not.

You really need a mixer that will mix minus at one and better still on two channels for podcasting.

Alesis has an unfortunate naming system for their mixers. The mixer mentioned in your quoted text is the MultiMix 16 USB 2.0. The mixer in your B&H link is to the MultiMix 16 USB FX. As far as I know, the FX does not provide individual USB channels to the mixer like the 2.0 does. The quoted text says as much.

A year ago, I talked with Alesis and asked them if the 2.0 line of mixers was discontinued. The representative said no, but he was wrong. As far as I can tell, they're gone. That's unfortunate.

The problem with the 2.0 mixer is that the aux sends do not appear as sound card inputs on the computer. Therefore, creating a mix minus still requires using analog connections.

I'm very pleased you chimed in on this one. I bought one and took it back, because I couldn't figure out how to do a mix minus.

I bought the X2442USB on your recommendation. I got a great deal on the price, and I've got enough holes, knobs, and switches on that thing to handle just about thing I expect to encounter podcasting. :)

The X2442usb is a serious looking mixer and hey... I got FX too.
