Its a very good mixer but what are your needs if you need alot of XLR connections it good if you only need 3 or 4 then I would suggest the Behringer XENYX X1204USB USB http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-a...r-with-effects
My first mixer was a 8 channel Yamaha and I loved it. I have been using a Mackie 1402-VLZ3 and it seems to be the choice of many Internet Broadcasters. The build quality is great. Here is a link
The X1222USB is okay, but if I were you, I'd spend the extra money and get the X2442USB. It may seem like overkill, but it has four auxiliary sends per channel. Here's the key, though. All four aux sends are either post-fader or switchable to post-fader. Aux sends are generally used for mix-minus feeds to Skype. Post fader is highly desirable, although pre-fader will work with a little care.
As far as the effects and such, forget those. I'm not aware of an established Internet broadcaster who uses digital effects. Most of the ones who use equalization do it incorrectly.
It's better to have unused channels than it is to need channels you don't have.
