I'm poking around www.bhphotovideo.com right now looking for adequate lighting for a standard new york sized living room. Does anyone have any ideas on what criteria should I implement when choosing a lighting system?
Or could anyone recommend a good lighting package?

there are a lot of good lighting kits you can go with. We went with Cowboy Studio 2275 Watt Lighting Kit (http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-Digital-Continuous-Softbox-Lighting/dp/B001P7G0ZQ/?tag=thgufrquponet-20)

how big is the room? The lights can play a big factor in that also

Roughly 14 x 17 square feet.

I think those lights would be good enough. the good thing about them is that you can turn each bulb off if you need less lighting

All I would need after that is a good cooling system.

Our studio gets really hot. there have been days we hit 100 degrees in there

Yeah, I remember you holding up the thermometer during the stickam japan relief aid benefit.

The lights themselves won't get too hot since they use florescent bulbs. You're going to need a couple of minus green gels since the bulbs that come with most of to today's s kits tend to give off a green/blue hue. Can work for stills, not not so much for video...

green gels, noted. This shopping list is growing. LOL

We added a pink Gel to ours and it really balanced out the color of the lighting

@ bushido I hope you ordered MINUS green gels…NOT green gels:) The color of the gels are actually magenta which color corrects the green hue from the florescent bulbs. You'll probably need at least 1/4 http://www.filmandvideolighting.com/lee14mamigrs.html

@Podnutter I used my home made light kit for years, but purchased the cowboy studio kit a few months ago.
