A big weekend at Waverley this week.

We kick off on Friday night with the China U19 Women's team taking on our u18's in an exhibition game @ 7.00pm AET

Saturday sees the VYCW Falcons taking on Ringwood Hawks @ 8.00 pm AET. Ringwood has been through the struggles of bring through young players and is now showing the benefits. Waverley is now in the position Ringwood was two seasons ago. Hopefully our girls can find the way to take it up to the more experienced Hawks.

On Sunday, a big Double header. At 12.30 the SCW Falcons will be challenged by Eltham who are desperate for a win. Look for the showdown between Ardossi and Munro! Then at 2.30 pm The BigV Match of the round sees Diamond Valley visit the Falcon's Nest for a crack at their ex-coach Andy Sherwood's SCM Falcons. The Waverley boys are coming off a thrilling overtime win against Ringwood last week and will be keen to apply the blowtorch to DV's title ambitions.

Three big games on FalconsTV - we are back on air this weekend! All times AEST
http://www.mindittv.net/wba

04/05/13 20:00 Waverley Basketball Centre (Victorian Youth Championship Women) Waverley Falcons Vs Nunawading Spectres

There was plenty of fight shown by these gusty Falcons last week, but it still couldn’t garner a win against the Ballarat Rush. They have another opportunity here against the Spectres who won’t be at all happy with their 4 point loss to the Boomers last week. Both sides are keen for a win and with plenty of young talent running around, this could be a close one too.

05/05/13 12:30 Waverley Basketball Centre (Victorian Youth Championship Men) Waverley Falcons Vs Sherbrooke Suns

The high scoring Falcons were at it again last week against the Boomers, posting 100 points in relative ease as their big three (Kuany, Hothnyang, Adel) combined for 84 of those. They’ll host a Suns side that plays the night before against Eltham. We doubt they’ll be too puffed from that but it could still play a factor. Expect an super quick game without a whole of D. Entertainment as its best.

05/05/13 14:30 Waverley Basketball Centre (State Championship Women) Waverley Falcons Vs Eltham Wildcats

This game will feature a new recruit for Eltham – Isabella Brancatisano! Yes, that’s not a misprint, Issy B has joined the Wildcats during the week and has been cleared for action, a fantastic inclusion for the Wildcats and one which will surely help them stay in touch with the frontrunners. However, the Wildcats will need to be at their best here against a strengthening Waverley team that at some stage will get on a run this season.

If Ardossi and Dombkins get on a roll, and they can lift their young teammates and take them along for the ride, we could see the Falcons cause some major damage as they attempt to go from last up into the top four. It’s a crucial game for the Wildcats, who currently sit in fifth and enter this one after a loss last time out. Put simply, if the visitors want to play finals this season, they have to get past the Falcons. Good game on the cards and plenty of attention given we’ll be seeing Issy B in different colours for the first time in her young but extensive career!

Mother’s Day Match!

The Falcon’s Men are on a roll whilst Eltham is needing a good result to keep finals a possibility. Will the depth of the Falcons be the deciding factor in this game?

It wasn’t that long ago that this would have been predicted to be one of the best games of the season, but times have changed and Eltham isn’t the same force as it has been in recent years. Depth is clearly an issue for the Wildcats with Scott Cuffe, John Lister and David Buchberger doing the bulk of the work. The same cannot be said for the Falcons with an even spread ensuring they are once again up and firing. Ivan Platenik and Sedale Threatt Jnr are in top form and with the likes of Brad Kellerher and Tom Boyle in the supporting cast, it’s hard to see the Wildcats causing too many headaches

Two cracking games this weekend at the Falcon's Home court. Here is that chance for you to see the juggernaut that is the Dandenong Rangers VYCW team. Followed by the SCM Falcons looking for revenge on the suprise packet of the year the Werribee Devils. If you can't make it to the stadium, catch the games online at Http://www.mindittv.net/wba

Victorian Youth Championship Women Waverley vs. Dandenong Sun 2/06 12.30pm AEST (Sunday, 2 June 2013 at 02:30:000 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Centre
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130602T1230&p1=152

With Waverley’s Championship Women playing in Bulleen, its unlikely we’ll see any of their regulars playing down on Sunday afternoon at home, leaving them vulnerable to an absolute flogging. Dandenong have been pretty merciless with every team they’ve come across, regardless of whether you’re second, or dead last.

State Championship Men Waverley vs Werribee Sun 2/06 2:30pm AEST (Sunday, 2 June 2013 at 04:30:00 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

A game with plenty riding on it for both teams – Werribee beat Waverley back in March, Werribee needs to win to stay in touch with the top four, Waverley need to be better (especially on the glass) than their effort last week at Corio Bay. It’s unknown if josh Oswald will play for the Devils, but no doubt they look far better with him in the team, while another good performance by the Silver brothers would certainly help as well. For Waverley, history tells us they usually bounce back hard from a loss, so expect a big effort here. Plus, their loss to the Devils back in round two will still be cutting deep. Ivan Platenik was well held at Corio Bay and should hit back with a big game. The Devils have been great this season, but with more knowledge about the hard running and slick ball movement of the Werribee lads, chances of a win sit firmly with the Falcons this time around.

A monster weekend at the Falcon’s Nest this weekend. If you can’t make it to the stadium, watch it online at http://www.mindittv.net/wba

Saturday is the girl’s night out!

Victorian Youth Championship Women

Waverley vs. Hume City Sat 15/06 6.30pm AEST (08.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130615T1830&p1=152

The Falcons should certainly take something from their efforts against Dandenong in a match that could have been a lot worse. But what do they make of this weeks opponent? Out of the ashes, the Broncos have pulled together two wins on the trot and are all of a sudden a tough matchup. Let’s face it, finals are beyond both these sides, but a wooden spoon is certainly up for grabs.

State Championship Women

Waverley vs Sherbrooke 8:30pm Sat AEST (10.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130615T2030&p1=152

Much has been said and written about Sherbrooke’s performances in SCW over the last two-and-a-half years. The Suns have struggled for wins or momentum for the most part and the loss of Sally Laing to injury this season has been a major thorn. This game sees the Suns travel to Waverley for a clash with the likes of Mikaela Dombkins and Brigitte Ardossi, two proven WNBL performers who are desperately needed right now to help string some wins together for the Falcons. It’s been said before, but if the Suns are going to grab a badly needed win, they absolutely need to step up in numbers and not just rely on one or two players each week. Massive opportunity for the Falcons to score a vital win and put simply, if the Falcons don’t get the chocolates here it will surely be a major blow to their finals aspirations.

The boys get down to it on Sunday afternoon

Victorian Youth Championship Men

Waverley vs. Sandringham Sun 16/06 12.30pm AEST (02.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130616T1230&p1=152

Well what a catastrophe round 11 was for Waverley. Stars out or not, it was a pretty abysmal effort from the top side in the competition from almost everyone. They’ll had two weeks to stew on it before hosting Sandy on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to return to the winners list. We’re likely to see Deng Adel and Hothnyang back in the lineup. Good for them, really bad for the Sabres.

State Championship Men

Waverley vs Ringwood 2:30pm Sun AEST (04.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130616T1430&p1=152

Well, the question was asked of Ringwood last time out against Corio Bay and straight to the point, the Hawks answered an emphatic yes with regards to their ability to make finals this season as they aim to defend their 2012 title. By blasting Corio Bay off the floor the Hawks clearly cemented themselves as an in-form team (six successive wins) capable of tearing apart any opponent. Let’s not forget they can also boast a win against Bulleen during that run.

The home team, Waverley, continues to be a hard unit to read. When they are up and about, they present as a slick crew with an ability to score quickly and lock down teams at the other end, but a narrow 1pt victory at home against Werribee in round 11 was too close for comfort. The Matt Snowball versus Sedale Threatt match-up is worthy of the admission fee here, while Ivan Platenik and Shaun Clarke could also put on a good show.

Though his last two games have delivered hauls at opposite ends (48pts and 6pts) of the hoops spectrum, you know that Bryan Dougher will explode if given room at the arc, so enjoy the fireworks. Given their current run, not to mention their demolishment of Corio Bay two weeks ago, it’s hard to see Ringwood slowing down anytime soon.

We are now into the final third of the 2013 regular Big V season and with the end in sight, teams are picking up the pace.

Follow all of the action live on FaconsTV: http://www.mindit.biz/wba

Today’s first game features the Victorian Youth Championship Women, and a Waverley team who are not only enjoying a long home stretch after being on the road for most of the season thus far, but are also coming off their best performance of the season after disposing of Hume City last week.
VYCW Waverley Vs. Ballarat Sun 23/6/13 12.30 pm AEST (UTC 2.00.00) Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20130623T1230&p1=152

The visiting Ballarat Rush however, have been a quality team this season, as evidenced by their 10-7 record and position well entrenched within the top four. These teams met earlier this season in Ballarat and it was the Rush on that occasion who got the job done. Can the Falcons make it two wins in a row or will the Rush get up show their finals credentials?
The second round of today’s Double Header should be another gripping contest. The Falcons VYC Men continue to garner plenty of attention and have looked impressive, however they were pushed for four quarters last week by the Sandringham Sabres.

VYCM Waverley Vs. Ballarat Sun 23/6/13 2.30 pm AEST (UTC 4.30.00) Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130623T1430&p1=152

The Ballarat VYC Men had a similarly tough game last week against the Knox Raiders, playing hard for four quarters before going down by just 12 points. A similar effort today should see another close game and a quality contest for fans.

Sit back, put something warm on and enjoy all the action

Four great games at Waverley this weekend. If you can’t make it to the stadium, watch the games online at http://www.mindittv.net/wba

VYCW Waverley vs. Bendigo Sat. 29/06 6.30pm AEST (08:30:00 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Centre
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130629T1830&p1=152

The Falcons have been way more competitive since installing Georgia Stirton and Taylor Dickinson into their line-ups upon their return from college. Although it’s too late for finals, much like Hume City, they can stuff up other people’s finals chances. The Braves have been surging and that peaked when they knocked off the previously undefeated Rangers last week at home. They are charging towards a top four spot and not a second too late. They sit one win out of finals and are breathing down Kilsyth’s neck.
The Falcon’s girls will be desperate for the win at home to show that their development program is still on track, whilst for Bendigo this is a must win game. It promises to be an enthralling contest.

VYCM Waverley vs. Hawthorn Sat. 29/06 8.30pm AEST (10:30:00 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130629T2030&p1=240

After seeing off another couple of challengers last week, the Falcons boys will be ready for the next in line. All of Waverley’s sheer talent was on show against the Cobras and the Rush in round 13 with a stunning performance from Matthew McCarthy but Hawthorn has had a habit of taking it right up to the Falcons for the last two seasons. Watch out for the battle between two of the stars of the competition- Ben Waldron and Deng Adel, both of who are vying for the league MVP title.

SCW Waverley vs. Melbourne Sun 30/06 12:30pm AEST (02:30:00 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130630T1230&p1=240

The Falcons women finally have some breathing space in fourth place, albeit just a small gap, which means the only item on their agenda, is to keep winning. They come up against a Melbourne team that really is a mystery from week to The Tigers haven’t had a great season, but if the Tigers can push Waverley all the way and work hard to limit Dombkins and Ardossi, perhaps an upset could be on the cards
The Falcons can’t afford to take this one lightly

SCM Waverley vs. Hume City Sun 30/06 2:30pm AEST (04:30:00 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130630T1430&p1=240

Waverley made a big step forward last week with a narrow win over DV giving the Falcons a box seat in the top four, but of course they need to keep winning. For Hume City, finally we saw some real fight last week and they went extremely close to grabbing an upset win. Though there is always talk about Maybank and Brown when looking at the Broncos, the likes of Bogart-King and Prendergast were up and about last week and both players need to keep that going in this tough contest.
It’s hard to see this one getting past the Falcons combination of Threatt, Kelleher, Boyle, Arkell, Platenik and the rest of the deep bench however.

A big Women's double header at Waverley this week.

LiveStream of Games: http://www.mindittv.net/wba

VYCW Waverley vs. Melbourne 12.30pm Sun 7/7/13 AEST (02.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130707T1230&p1=240

The win last week will give the young Falcon’s team going into this week’s game against a Melbourne squad that is going through a rebuild similar to the Falcons. Georgia Stirton has added experience to the group and is providing much needed leadership on court, so the Falcon’s should be competitive. Melbourne however always seems to find a player that stands up when needed. Expect this to be a game that could go either way

SCW Waverley vs Bulleen 2:30pm Sun 7/7/13 AEST (04.30 UTC) @ Waverley Basketball Stadium
Time in your part of the world: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=5&iso=20130707T1430&p1=240

After a successful outing last weekend few would tip against Waverley in this match-up. Brigitte Ardossi has been dominant in the paint over the last few weeks, Claire Landby has been finding her shooting touch and Mikaela Dombkins has added the poise that was missing earlier in the season. Whilst Bullen is not to be taken lightly the Falcon’s should see a win here securing their spot in the finals.

We've almost got to the end of the season!

VYCM and VYCW teams (u23's) enter finals this weekend, whilst for the rest of the competition it is the final round of the season prior to finals beginning next week. Waverley has had what can be considered to be a successful season with three out of its four teams making the finals. All of these teams are on show this weekend at their home court at Waverley Basketball stadium. If you can't be there join the online audience of over two thousand viewers who have watched a game this season at http://www.mindittv.net/wba

First up, the Falcons VYCM, who ended the season on top of the ladder face up to Sherbrooke. Whilst they have had the Suns measure in the last two meetings, the Falcons lead up to the finals has been affected by a form slump. If Coach Minerve cannot address that and the porus defense that we have seen over the last few games, ex-Falcon Michael Dow might spark his Sherbrooke teammates into an upset. Expect Deng Adel, Kuany Kuany and the other boys to be fired up for this contest.

The game tips off at 8.00 pm AEST (10:00:00 UTC) on Saturday 27/7/2013 @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

On the following day we will see a preview of the finals when the Falcons SCW play host to Hume City. These two teams have been perennial rivals, and both teams have been going through generational change over the last two seasons. However the injection of experience into both teams, Brigette Ardrossi and Mikakela Dombkins for the Falcons, and Sharin Milner and Tarry McPherson for Hume has seen both young squads blossom sending a strong message to the rest of the competition. This should be a cracker of a game with Hume needing to secure a win to guarantee a home game against McKInnon in their first round final next week.

Game time 12.30 pm AEST (02:30:00 UTC) Sunday 28/7/2013 @ Waverley Basketball Stadium

Finally the men hit the floor in the SCM clash between the Falcons and the Tigers. Traditional rivals, ladder position suggests that this should be a Falcon's win, but don't count the Tigers out. In the second year of a generational change, the Tigers have the ability to spoil any teams party! If their young guns can get going they will prove a handfull for the experience of the Falcons' squad. However with Tom Boyle and Sedale Threatt back into the lineup, the Falcons' should be confident of containing the Tigers' charge.
