With all the different free video streaming sites I find it very interesting that there are not many free audio streaming services. I am currently using Stream Monster (http://www.streammonster.com/) for my network. Even though it is not free I find it extremely affordable for what I am doing

I recently discovered a site called Mixlr (http://mixlr.com) that offers a free Solution.

Who do you guys use?

I use Mixlr to simulcast the show and libsyn for the app and our Stitcher feed.

How do you do on Mixlr. I don't see much traffic from the site when we broadcast on there.

I mostly use Mixlr to broadcast the show on our fanpage and just to have another way to listen out there.

I started out running my own Shoutcast server on my VPS with an embed on my main streaming page along with the Justin.TV embed. I've since switched over to Mixlr, replacing my Shoutcast embed with the Mixlr embed. I did receive one complaint from the switch which was the fact that it (Mixlr) automatically plays, there is no way to pause it and sometimes the volume control doesn't show up on certain operating systems.

When I was using my Shoutcast server, I was feeding it using the Nicecast application on my iMac which is also saving the audio file in m4a format for later editing.

Mixlr's best use may be its Facebook embed, if you have a large Facebook following. Note that your Mixlr stream is also available on iPhones and Androids.

If you have an issue with Mixlr, contact them on Twitter (@mixlr) or by email (mixlr@mixlr.com). The owners are very responsive to customer issues.

While the service is free, you can get some extra capabilities and higher bandwidth with a paid subscription, which is about $8US per month. It's good to support them to make sure they can hang around.
