Podcasting in Seasons. Does it Work?

I am considering starting a podcast but doing it in seasons. Possibly do 12-24 episodes,take some time off then start again. Does anyone here do a seasonal podcast?

What type of shows do you do and how do you make sure your audience is still interested when you come back?

It really will depend on the show and the type of show it is. I have seen some sports shows do it in seasons and it works for them
