Skype for Web (http://blogs.skype.com/2014/11/14/please-welcome-skype-for-web-beta/) makes chatting face-to-face with your aunt easier by eliminating the need to download a pesky app.

Skype's wonderfully easy to use provided you've already got it on the device you're using. Skype for Web makes it easier to get your chat on when Skype isn't already installed. All you've got to do is go to Skype.com and login.

The new service is in beta for right now and it'll slowly roll out to everyone over the next few months. [Skype (http://blogs.skype.com/2014/11/14/please-welcome-skype-for-web-beta/)]

What's wrong with using the app?

I'm with you. There's nothing wrong with using the APP. It's an interesting idea because if you are in a meeting and someone does not have Skype installed on their computer and they need a really fast way of using Skype, this is a fast way of using it. No installation necessary, but what will most likely happen is the user will get bogged down by having to create a valid user profile. Maybe Skype is working on a way of integrating Skype within websites, to facilitate calling live broadcast shows ;-)

The ability to configure inputs and outputs in the Skype app is a great benefit, or at least it was until they screwed up the input volume control on the Windows app.

I would much rather use an app. I hope this is not the direction they are headed
