This is a $200 hardware.

I use a focusrite 2i2 audio interface and it is an excellent hardware device.

I looked at this and was thinking...wow, this might be an exciting hardware to use with podcasting.
Maybe, even work with Boss Jock as a sound board. The USB input to the itrack dock from MIDI may open up some interesting ways of doing things as well.

It uses several software, which might mean a real "just for podcasting" application could be on the horizon.

My Focusrite 2i2 audio interface really cleans up audio from mic very well. I am going to be watching this one closely. The price is right, and I am already tempted to buy one. It will do recordings for sure and there are a number of software to use.

The price seems reasonable so I'm looking forward to hearing from early adopters.

Studying this itrack dock thing has gotten me thinking about the 2i2 that I own. I was watching a video, which I dont' recall. The commentator basically said the itrack dock was just an 2i2 internally with the same pre-amps and connections, with the exception of the USB connection. The USB connection on the itrack dock is an midi input uSB, and the 2i2 is an out to computer USB.

I can see why the variation in connections. The basic operation is to have a recording tool for ipad with Midi input into the unit and the saving of recorded files is from within the software tools provided or applied to the docking station.

This is a video I found that might be of interest to some of you, if you currently own a focusrite 2i2.

(1) I looked into this powered USB Hub barely described in this video. It is a piece of junk and I wouldn't buy it. They are all over Amazon under dozens of names. Almost all the reviews say the same thing. Personally, I need a more rugged hardware.

(2) Also, don't be distracted by the connection from the usb hub to the ipad. All you need is the Apple MC5312 M/A Camera Connection Kit. Also, I am sure there are cheaper alternatives for this as well. You can use a regular USB 2.0 cable into the kit. If you try to find a hub with the ipad2 connector connection furnished you limit your choices.

(3) You will probably needed a powered hub in most instances. The way the powered hub in the video above is connected to power is via an adapter with a ubs female slot. This will work, but a regular plug adapter that comes with powered hubs will work as well.

I realize the focusrite unit in the video is not the 2i2. The unit he is using is just a larger version of the 2i2 and connects to the ipad with powered usb hub.

I'm going to play with this awhile before I drop $200 for the itrack dock unit.

I would bet Ray Ortega can do a nice setup using the 2i2 audio interface over a direct USB connect from ATR2100. The ATR2100 is an excellent mic. Getting high quality audio from an interface like the 2i2 using a Cubase, Audio Forge, Audition or other recorder editor should make big improvements in sound quality. (24bit/96khz)

There is also an excellent software package included with both their itrack dock and the 2i2. I don't know if the free plugins from focurrite will work with other than Cubase software. I asked a support question, but haven't heard back. Personally, I've avoided cubase. I do so much work with SonyVegas for past 4 years and it has pretty good audio tools built in.

Couple months back I bought the studio version of SonyVegas, which included audio forge. I'm trying to work with the Audio Forege , because I am not going to leave Sony Vegas. The documents are over 1,000 pages and the idea of having to learn something new is of NO interest to me. The Audio Forge does have a lot of similarity and crossover ability with Sony Vegas., THe package I bought does have similar software tools that should be adequate by Izotrope plugins.

Anyway, this posting isn't about promoting Focusrite. It is about things that are available I found, which might tweak the interest of some others. I found a similar audio interface from Roland that looked good as well. Duo-Capture EX. I've not been too interested to get that involved in it, because when I bought the focusrite I made my choice for audio interface. I may have made a mistake, but if I did I will have to blame the guy where bought it as well. I inquired, he encouraged. LOL

Here is a link to a video about the Roland interface.
