A new dbx 286s is only $200, and you can use it for mic or line level.

Hello Mike,
I'm pretty much married to my Rupert Neve mic pre but unfortunately it doesn't include a Gate. Even so, I ran across a good deal on a dedicated Gate that I'll run in series with my pre. It's only slightly more than the 286s but its also on equal footing as the Neve. It's used but a very clean looking Drawmer DS201. It hasn't arrived yet and the only reason I chose this option is because I love my Neve.

Just so you know that I'm not totally crazy, I share this gear with my son who will actually get more utility out of these components than I will.
