I have been trying to connect my laptop to a black magic capture card for a few hours no and it wont work. The only thing I am getting is a black screen. Im connecting it via the hdmi out on the side of the laptop. From what I have read it seems to be an HDCP issue. is there anyway to bypass or strip the HDCP? all I am doing is trying to use it for skype

You will have to convert to component if it is HDCP. However, most laptops don's send a HDCP enabled signal through unless you are using a protected DVD as source. I suspect you have another issue.

I know that some HDMI Splitters are able to bypass HDCP. The one I use is OREI HD-104 1x4 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NKOC2W/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007NKOC2W&linkCode=as2&tag=thgufrquponet-20)

We had the same issue with a laptop and this corrected it. I dont know if it will for your setup but might be worth trying.
