Does Audio and Video Quality Feally Matter for podcasting?

I was listening to Daniel J Lewis Podcast the other day and the topic was if audio and video quality really matters. I mean I'm not talking about total crap for audio and video but average to lightly below average. Isn't content what people lsiten for?
