A lot of people out there seem to forget all the cool things that can be done with CamTwist on the Mac, and it's free. For most folks out there that are on the Mac and want to stream it offers everything you need. No need to go out and buy Wirecast.

Anyone else out there using it? Let's see the way you set it up.

CamTwist doesn't have an Encoder.
It doesn't offer everything I need. Desktop Presenter is one example of a key Wirecast features that sends Video and Audio over LAN to Wirecast.
I use CamTwist often . . . as a camera source into Wirecast.
I like CamTwist. It's not a replacement for Wirecast though. It works with Wirecast. I use both together.

For "most people" a couple web cams, desktop, and maybe an IRC overlay, is all they need stream. Yes Wirecast can do lots of cool stuff but CamTwist is free, as in Beer ;-)

I have camtwist on my mac and its a pretty neat piece of software. If Webcasting is something you want to get serious about I would recommend Wirecast for the mac.

I have to use CamTwist to send my switched camera feed to the studio.

Not arguing that Wirecast is not a good solution, but with CamTwist and FME/QTB you can do a multi-cam show with all the bells and whistels like GFQ produces pretty easily.

Here is a video that shows some of the things it can do for those that want to give CamTwist a go.

I recently reinstalled Camtwist on my mac and I really am impressed. For something thats FREE it really does a lot of stuff. The only things missing is recording and streaming but I think its a great way to start broadcasting without spending the money

I actually covered my use of CamTwist in my e-book. I don't use it anymore, but it's great when you're on a tight budget. Free is good! :)

Here is a quick update:

For streaming you have to use Flash Media Encoder, and this allows you to record the video. QuickTime Broadcaster is an alternative to FME, and it allows you to record as well.

Again this is a free solution for Mac users.

PS. A fast computer and lots of RAM are needed to get the most out of any video streaming software and CamTwist is no different.

My issue with Recording with FMLE is that you can only save the file as an FLV.

Interesting note is that there's now a CamTwist 3 Beta

You may want to poke around the CamTwist forums.

Perhaps discuss the CamTwist Beta here. It might be a good interest group.

Any CamTwist users? Any updates?

I wonder if Wirecast is working on a "Alpha channel/Macro transition" video function.

Example below: 2 minute 38 second mark:

If you want alpha channel transitions in Wirecast you may want to submit the feature request. They need to know what the users want.

CamTwist has been in beta for the next release for a very long time (a couple of years????).
I think the big problem they face is Apple has moved to AVFoundation (CoreMedia) and Adobe FMLE seems to be EOL with Quicktime. The result would be that the new CamTwist can no longer use FMLE to stream as CamTwist is also moving to CoreMedia as they should.
