Why isn't Wirecast 64 bit yet?

In 2003 64-bit CPUs were introduced to the (previously 32-bit) mainstream personal computer arena in the form of the x86-64 and 64-bit PowerPC processor architectures and in 2012.

A 64-bit register can store 264 (over 18 quintillion or 1.8×1019) different values. Hence, a processor with 64-bit memory addresses can directly access 264 bytes (=16 exbibytes) of byte-addressable memory. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing)

I work at a software developer and we haven't converted all of our software over to 64bit versions. Many of the reasons can be found here in this article written several years ago but still applicable.

http://www.cio.com/article/478352/From_32_Bit_to_64_Bit_Why_Software_Development_Is_ Lagging_Hardware_Improvements

Bottom-line is that depending on what the software does it may not make any significant difference. The ability to take advantage of greater than 4GB of memory is the most often reason given.

Often underlying code dependencies may make it difficult or impossible. Complex software such as Wirecast that may have 3rd party code dependencies can greatly complicate the matter. In other words the 3rd party needs to update their code before Telestream can do anything. Now I don't know if that is the case with Wirecast...so it's just a guess.

Moviebuff I found your earlier post, last year, with regard to 64bit Wirecast and put in a request at Telestream support...

Wow, thanks AlBurr! That was a great read and thanks for the request.

Others are also asking about a 64 bit version of Wirecast here:
