Audacity is free and works great. Still a great solution

I use Audicity and Adobe's Audition. Audicity is free, whereas Adobe's Audition is not.

Don't mind paying for something if it would be a better product

Well, in my humble opinion, just b/c you pay for something, doesn't mean it's better. I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination, but I know a couple of audio pro's who use Audicity as well as the pay tools like Pro Tools and they like 'em both. I suppose it comes down to the features and/or bells and whistles you need and want. But I would say try them out and see which one works for you. I know some of the paid titles have free trials, so you could start there.

Audacity works well for me. Unless you know how to use/need all of the advanced features that the paid software offers, it's a waste of money.

I have thought about getting some sort of software, and from the reviews here audacity could be my first. Right now I'm simply using my voice and the recorder on my computer. Simple.

Well Audacity is free, so it wouldn't cost you anything. :)

I use both Audacity and Adobe Audition and quite frankly Audacity does everything I need it to...I suppose when I become more familiar with sound engineering I may take advantage of Audition but for now I am good with Audacity.
