Does anyone here host their podcast on Archive.org? I heard Tom Merritt is using Archive.org to host his video and audio.

Is this something a lot of people do? What are some Pros and Cons?

We are just trying this out with a few shows at GFQ. So far the audio has been fine. We're going to try video next.

Sunkast what are some Cons? I would imagine free hosting is not great

I haven't used it long enough to pick out pros and cons. Literally just started using it a few days ago. But the speed for mp3 downloads has been fine.

I've posted a few episodes from our various shows over the last 12 months, audio and video, and it seemed to work ok. Tom Merritt is using it for the audio version of his Daily Tech News show. I have seen many podcast "trainers" state not to do it and they may have valid reasons that they do not want to use it. I, however, haven't seen a reason not to at this point.

I have hosted audio and video for years on their site. Most of my videos are 2-5 minutes so I don't know how long form content would do.

IMPORTANT: Archive.org gives you an "https" domain for the download files. iTunes and other podcast software doesn't like this. Remove the "s" and you are good to go. If you are using a stats tracking program like PowerPress it strips the "https" so you don't have to worry about it. I ran into the "https" problem on sites where I don't use stats tracking, and figured out that removing the "s" from the domain fixes it.

If you have any questions let me know, since I have been using this with and without Wordpress sites for Podcasting.

In my opinion using Archive.org is good for a several situations:

You are shutting down a show and dont want to keep hosting the files, but you want the show to live on. I moved a show that had over 60 episodes of audio content to archive. I also moved the website to blogger. So except for the domain name, it's a free solution.
Testing a new show to see if it has legs
Audio only podcasts
Shorter form video

Note: Don't forget to back up your shows before posting to any podcast hosting site!!

I've been using archive.org since years ago and never found anything deleted at all.
Do not worry for getting deleted because archive.org is trying to backup the internet for the future generations and nothing deleted as long as it is not violating their rules.
Also they keep getting more and more servers.
Also the most important thing is the ftp access for uploading which is amazing.
The most important thing is to always use the links that includes the word download and not these links with numbers.
I never used it for podcast rss feeds so I will be glad to know how to do so.
