PODCASTERS : STOP BUYING TWITTER and FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS

I know at one point many marketing "gurus" would recommend buying twitter and Facebook followers to make your brand seem larger than it actually is but enough is enough. I just looked at a fellow internet broadcasters twitter and they have 40,000 twitter followers... They had 12 a few days ago. Same goes for Facebook. If you have 6 Facebook likes then overnight it becomes 10k there is something wrong. Its very easy to prove you are buying followers.

Does buying followers help? If you have a lot of followers does it make people think your show is good?

I believe websites are starting to clean out people who have fictitious followers. Such as Youtube. In the end its wasted money. I noticed that on Justin.tv. Some girl had 60K followers but only one million views. It was inconsistant with twit network that had millions of views but only a few thousand followers for example.
