Andrew, How does the x264 encoding look? Is it a functional improvement over WC 4.3.1's h.264 encoding? Best guess CPU usage reduction?

Hi Tom,
In Wirecast 5, x264 now has controls over CPU use. There are 9 "encoding steps" 1 is "Ultra Fast" through 9 which is "Very Slow"
This means you can use a given frame size and data rate and change one of the "steps" to impact its use on the CPU. The "slower" the selection (larger the number step) the better the quality. What this does allow for is the ability to use a given frame size and data rate even if you're on a bit of an underpowered laptop for example vs a Xeon powered workstation. Of course data rate and frames sizes have impact as they would "traditionally." Generally x264 can look much better than MainConcept's H.264 used in Adobe FMLE and elsewhere. There are Tricaster users who are looking at Wirecast to send to as an encoder.
